While other industries are depressing, the drone industry is still rising slowly with the support of drone charging docks, more and more drones and drone docks participate in smart city programs worldwide.
Smart city sounds still far away from our lives as so many concepts are brought into, such as infrastructure inspection, traffic monitoring, emergency management, public security monitoring and management, which requires dozens of drones and pilots involved and on standby if do not get drone docks participated. The Operating System of a drone dock can remotely collect real-time streaming videos and sync them to the control center while integrating the drone delivery and recharge functions.
Real cases released online are quite limited, related applications can only be found in South Korea, Italy, Belgium, and China.
Seoul is using drones and drone docks to work with the smart street lights for monitoring illegal parking and traffic snags, FlytBase’s remote drone controlling software has joined this program.
In north Italy, an automated UAV system provided by Dronus is developed to measure and monitor the concentration of natural gas in large-scale facilities, which allows an operator to remotely identify a potential gas leak from the operation center with the help of software. No more sending pilots to the site as this UAV system can be automatically triggered for flight missions, meanwhile, the landing and recharging processes are all autonomous.
Even though these two cases happen in large scenes, but still relatively small compared with a city program.
The third case in Belgium covers a larger area, including cities, ports, industrial facilities, and warehouses. Citymesh, an experienced 5G provider has joined this program and provides a Remote Operations Center. The drone docking station is from Heisha, it forms an autonomous drone network by working with the DJI M300, which delights the police forces, fire brigade, and emergency departments. Its software is also provided by FlytBase, and an overwhelming number of safe-flying measures are included: Failsafes, No-Fly-Zone, Smart Return-to-Home, along with an intelligent weather sensing system.
The last case that drone and drone docks get involved in the smart city is from China, it is the largest scene that deploys multiple drones and docks, 10 DJI Matrice 300 and Heisha drone docks are working together for nine departments in total. The command center will collect the flying demand and appoint it to the closet drone docking station, then share the captured videos and images with the related department, it only takes a few minutes to get the data, which thrills the emergency management, city management, public security, and traffic department. The Freesky operating system enables an operator to remotely fly a drone and automatically recharge the drone on a drone dock, which can minimize the cost for pilots.
So the application and deployment of drone docks in smart cities are expanding day by day, and the drone dock industry is thriving, it is no more a strange product to the drone industry, but to make it familiar to the mass, it may still take a while.
