Rumors are spreading around about the population decline worldwide, but we still see crowds at every crossroad when we are waiting for traffic lights, and we feel the number of people in the malls, parks, and museums.
What’s really going on?
“Global population growth reached a peak in 1962 and 1963 with an annual growth rate of 2.2%; but since then, world population growth has halved.” from ourworldindata.org
The trends of decline seem unstoppable, no doubt, our future will be filled with elders, yet there are not enough energetic young people to serve them, how to deal with that? We will have to rely on technologies, especially robots.
“The industrial robotics market is projected to grow from USD 15.7 billion in 2022 to USD 30.8 billion by 2027” according to a press from Yahoo finance.
These numbers indicate a noticeable fact: robot technology is getting mature and is ready to serve more people. But there sits a roadblock between the robots and the autonomy, the power supply, and how to make it autonomous.
Autonomous charging is necessary
In many classifications, robots are classified as one kind of vehicle, an electrical vehicle, of course. It’s not hard to find EV charging stations, it’s a booming industry. But for the robot charging, only a few providers can be found from Google: WiBotic, Powermat, Hairobotics, HEISHA Tech, etc. To be more specific, the autonomous robot charging station for different kinds of robots, Powermat offers custom wireless and autonomous robot charging stations, while HEISHA Tech’s robot charging station seems more flexible, and can recharge different kinds of robots and drones on different floors, it is a small house-like charging station.
The best-selling robots for consumers shall be the sweeping robots, which come with their own automatic charging station, with one button, the machine will go charge itself.
So the large demand for an autonomous robot charging station will come from industrial robotics finally. However, the robot arms and other factory-applied robots may not be included.
Robots that are close to our daily lives
Back to the elder age, based on human kinds’ daily requirements, clothes, food, house, and transportation. Food shall come first to keep us breathing. Cooking at home for elders will become less popular, and we have to admit that people are getting lazier every day. Dining at restaurants and ordering food to be delivered home will be two popular ways to handle the eating issue. That would be a huge stage for the robot to play.
Several logistics companies (like SF Express, ) are already working on cargo drones and other mobile robots.
As there would be less population, the current roads will be not as busy as now, separate one special line for cargo robots shall not be a problem. Sames trouble as drones facing now will rise by then, charging multiple robots simultaneously and autonomously. The R80 robot charging station from HEISHA Tech seems useful in the future, let’s hope they can hold to the future.
Clothes-making already relies on machines, but house building and vehicle driving still may require humans involved for a while. In the construction site, especially mining, some robots (meaning drones) already get participate, in inspection, mapping, progress monitoring, etc.
Even though many scientific movies are about robots’ revenge on humans, that’s after robots’ thriving, which has a long long way to go. Until then, we need to take care of our lives first.
